Trash Duty

Posted by Cinda On June - 20 - 2013ADD COMMENTS

neighborhoodIt was a gorgeous day for a walk; blue sky and only one small cloud in sight. I took in a deep breath and prayed, “Lord, walk with me today. I would love to spend this time with you.” I am sure it tickled His ear to have me ask Him to join me. He delights in his children! So I decided then that I would take a bit longer walk this morning. It was so nice and I loved being outside.

I was quiet so that I wouldn’t miss anything the Lord might want to say. I was so eager this morning for some reason. I made my first turn and right away noticed some trash on the sidewalk, I stepped over it and walked on. Then I heard this quiet voice in my head. “Go back and pick it up.” I said out loud, “What? Go pick it up?” Yep, I heard right. So I turned around and went back and picked up the fast food bag that had been discarded and now wet from the sprinklers. So, I continued on my walk a few more feet and I saw something else. I heard, “pick it up,” so I did. Not long, I saw something else. I turned my head, pretending as if I didn’t see it; as if He didn’t see it! But, oh no, he saw it and of course I was impressed to go back and pick it up. “Lord, it’s a beer bottle!” “People will see me walking along carrying this beer bottle. Yuck!” But, I picked it up. Next I saw a soda bottle. I knew I had to pick it up also, so I did. A few more feet of walking, I heard this quiet voice say, “You know, Janet, if you poured out that soda it wouldn’t be so heavy.” I laughed out loud! Ok, so I stopped and dramatically took the lid off and poured out the soda.

litterI was now almost to the end of my first main street and ready to turn the corner.  I said to the Lord, “Lord this is so much fun today but if you want me to do trash duty, give me a bag!” You wouldn’t believe it! Just after I made my turn onto a business street, I found a big black trash bag. It was torn completely down one side, but it was a bag. I laughed out loud again. “God you are too much fun!” So I put all the collected trash in the bag and folded it up so that I could continue on my very long morning walk.

I noticed a lady walking toward me. Her accent told me she may be from Jamaica or some similar place. She smiled at me as she approached so I smiled back and said, “Good morning.” She stopped and said to me, “Is this your job?” I laughed and said no. So then she said, “Why would someone do that?” (She meant picking up the trash.) So I tried to tell her about my walking adventure, she just smiled at me and said “Ok, have a good day.” That made me laugh out loud again!

I continued on my walk. After making my next turn, knowing my walk would soon be over, I said to the Lord, “Lord this has been so much fun. Thank you for walking with me. I know you are trying to tell me something and I don’t want to miss it. Please tell me.” This was the lesson I was to learn and I will never forget it. IF YOU LEARN TO OBEY ME IN THE LITTLE THINGS, YOU WILL LEARN TO OBEY ME IN THE BIGGER THINGS. How cool! Very clear! I got this one!

I soon turned onto my street thinking my walk was over but I was wrong. Wouldn’t you know it, a dog had gotten into the neighbors trash can. Trash was all over the street. My thought was that I learned the lesson taught to me and I was almost home. I really didn’t need to stop and pick up that trash also. Wrong! So I crossed the street and began picking up the trash.

When I got home, I went in through the front door and out to the garage to throw the trash bag away. My husband never said a thing like it was common for me to come home from a walk with a large bag full of trash! Life just went on like nothing happened. But something did happen. The Lord spoke to my heart and taught me to trust Him and obey Him in every detail.

Heaven is a Choice

Posted by Cinda On May - 14 - 2013ADD COMMENTS

work_gossipWhile working a temp job at the Broadmoor, I overheard a couple of ladies nearby. One of the gal’s comments broke my heart, not only for her but for others who may share the same belief. She said, “I sure hope I don’t go to heaven, I wouldn’t know anyone there and that would be the pits”.

Do people not understand heaven and what the alternative is? This is very scary. I wonder where people get their information from? Who is telling them these things? Is it the TV, radio, music, books, family beliefs handed down through the years? How very sad! The world’s idea of heaven is so far from the truth. Do they think heaven is unreachable? Undesirable? Too costly?

The people I have been around these few days can afford anything and everything. Yet, no amount of money can buy their eternity; their salvation. What some people have today will be the only Heaven they will ever see and it doesn’t even come close to what awaits those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ. My heart is breaking for them!

So this makes me wonder what do they know about hell? Do they realize there is a real place with a real devil that they will have to spend eternity with? With real fire, real torment, continual gnashing of teeth, no light, no peace, no comfort to ever be had. Do they realize what they are choosing is for eternity? That is a long time to live with regret and there is no way to change it once they die. “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that faces judgment.” Hebrews 9:27

Editor’s Note: The choice is ours. Heaven or Hell. And, it comes down to one singular decision. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 Invite Jesus into your life and receive His gift of grace and everlasting life with Him. To learn more, click on “About” (above) and scroll down to our Statement of Faith. Choosing where you want to spend eternity will be the absolute most important decision you will ever make. And you don’t have to get your life together to do it! Jesus will do it for you and through you and it’ll be the most wonderful life adventure you’ll ever have.

House Rules

Posted by Cinda On April - 23 - 2013ADD COMMENTS

laughingkids4Every home has its house rules. Every house has its own different rules even. We all determine what we will and what we will not tolerate in our home. Some rules maybe to take your shoes off when you walk in the house; leave your shoes outside; no jumping on the bed; no sitting on the counters; stand when you say grace; hold hands while saying grace; take your dishes to the sink; rinse your dish and put them in the dishwasher; make your bed before you leave; whatever the rules are you know them and you make it clear for others as they come what you expect while they are in your house. Nothing wrong with rules in the house and we all will comply with other’s rules even if they are not the ones we would enforce at our house.

Well there is no wonder then that God has rules for His home as well. He keeps the rules simple so that we can all understand and can be comfortable with them. He has said, “No one comes to the Father except through the Son.” “My sheep know my voice and follow me.” “Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin.” “For God so loved the world he sent His Son that who so ever believes in Him would not perish but have ever lasting life.”   We all have rules for reasons. Some of them are to keep us and those in our home safe, some are to keep things clean. Some are to just keep order. But they all have a purpose. In God’s house, he has purpose also. You see, God can not live where sin is. He will not have sin enter His house. So He has made a way for us to enter into His house as clean and free from all sin. That way is through His Son, Jesus. There is no other way. I know that some people think it is to simple others think it is to hard. It really is hard to understand so that is why is comes through faith. To have faith that Jesus is God’s Son. That is came to earth and was born to a virgin. That he lived a sinless life, died a cruel death on the cross to cover sin for all people once and for all. That He was buried and rose again on the third day. Faith to understand He went to  heaven to prepare a place for us and will come again for all of those who have put their faith in Him.
