What We Believe

Posted by Cinda

COFFEE CUP FRIENDS
is a Christian-based, non-denominational ministry that adheres
to the timeless Truths put forth in God’s Word.

readingWho is a CHRISTIAN? A person who believes that Jesus is the Christ, the only begotten Son of the Living God, and has received Him, through faith, as personal Lord and Savior of his or her life. Salvation does not come through good works or good deeds, but by faith alone. It is a gift from God.  We do good works “because” we love Jesus and have received Him as our Savior – not as a means to our Salvation.

What Do We Believe About The WORD OF GOD? We believe that the Bible is the infallible Word of God. It is fully inspired and without error (according to the original manuscripts) and was written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It is the final authority in matters of faith and conduct.

What Do We Believe about The TRINITY? We believe that there is ONE living and true God, eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God not only created the universe and every living thing in it, but continues to mercifully sustain life. He is everlasting – without beginning or end.

Who is GOD THE FATHER? We believe in God the Father as a personal, infinite spirit – perfect in holiness, love, wisdom and power. He hears and answers prayer and saves (from sin and death) all who come to Him through His son, Jesus Christ.

contemplation5Who is JESUS CHRIST? We believe in Jesus Christ as God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, performed miracles, and taught us how to live a God-honoring, abundant life. Jesus took on Himself all our sins when He went to the cross. He died and rose again, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, as our advocate and mediator until His eventual and personal return to earth. “Jesus said…’I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.” John 14:6 (NAS) “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever.” Hebrews 13: 8 NAS

Who is the HOLY SPIRIT? We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. (All men and women everywhere are lost and face the judgment of God and need to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ through His shed blood on the cross.) For all who believe in Christ, the Holy Spirit regenerates, sanctifies, and empowers them to live a life pleasing to the One Holy God.  We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ and that He is our abiding helper, teacher, and guide.

What do we believe about SALVATION? We believe all people are sinners by nature (born with a sinful nature) and by choice. Therefore, all are under condemnation and face judgment.  We believe that those who genuinely repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior have been forgiven and become a part of God’s eternal family.

What constitutes CHRISTIAN LIVING? We believe that every Christian believer has a unique relationship to God and should live for His glory.  As His children, we have immediate access to the Throne of Grace through prayer. And, as Christians we should discipline ourselves to read God’s Word, not out of duty (legalism) but out of love and a desire to learn about God, His character, and incredible purpose for our lives. Beyond these, we should always be concerned for the well-being of our fellowman and daily dedicate ourselves to serving others. If we’ve asked Christ to be Lord of our lives, then we commend ourselves to His authority.

twowomencupsWe also believe that evangelism (spreading the Good News of Jesus) is the obligation/privilege of every follower of Jesus Christ. The Lord commands us in Matthew 28: 19-20 to “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” We believe that evangelism begins with our own families as the Holy Spirit leads us and gives us the ability. Then, we should have a concerned heart for the lost in our communities, our country, and around the world, sharing the light and love of Jesus as we are led.

DO YOU WANT TO KNOW JESUS? Many people think, “I’m too bad and I’m beyond help.” But the exciting thing is God loves us no matter who we are or what we’ve done. Of course, He hates sin but He loves YOU.  He accepts us just as we are – warts and all! Then, there are others that say they’re not ready to give up the “fun” and excitement of this world. Who says that Christianity isn’t exciting? It’s an incredible adventure with Jesus. Besides, do you know what’s around the next corner? Here today and gone tomorrow. There are no guarantees. The Bible says, “And it is appointed for men to die once, and after this comes judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27) Don’t put off your decision of where you are going to spend eternity because we never know what tomorrow may bring. If you sincerely want to be accepted into the family of God and make Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior, it’s as simple as saying a prayer…

prayer08A PRAYER OF REPENTANCEGod, I know I have sinned and have done many wrong things in my life. Please forgive me. This day, I am willing to turn away from those sins and do whatever you ask me to do. Jesus, I know that you died on the cross for me and was raised from the dead. Please come into my life and help me turn my life around so it is pleasing and honoring to You. At this very moment, I accept your gift of salvation and receive you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you for welcoming me into your Kingdom and your family. In Jesus’ name, Amen”

If you sincerely prayed this prayer, REJOICE! The angels in Heaven are! Your name has just been added to the Lamb’s Book of Life and will spend eternity in Heaven. It’s a “done deal” – sealed for all time. The Bible says, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.” I John 5:13

Now that you have the assurance of Salvation…
you might ask what do I do next?

Share your good news with someone. (Chances are someone has been praying for you.) Drop us an e-mail at Coffee Cup Friends and let us know your exciting news, too! Then, we can pray for you and help you in other ways.

Fellowship with other Christians. At this point, it is important for you to find a Bible-believing church that teaches the fundamentals of the Christian faith. Hebrews 10:24-25 Also, surround yourself with other people who are also Christian at work, in your neighborhood, or your circle of friends.

Once you are established in a church, be baptized. The Bible says, “Repent and be baptized every one of you.” Acts 2:38 Baptism, itself, doesn’t save us, but is the outward demonstration of an “already made” internal decision. In other words, it’s an outward demonstration to others that we belong to Christ and are ready to do His work.

Get to know God by:
1) Reading your Bible (a Christian bookstore will help you pick out a Bible if you don’t already have one).   “Study to show yourself approved unto God.” 2 Timothy 2:15
2) Devote yourself to prayer (simply, a conversation with God). As you grow in your prayer life, the focus of your prayers will be more on God, glorifying and worshiping Him rather than on “me” and our circumstances.  “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Col. 4:2
3) Finally, share Jesus with others so they can know Him, too!
